Nordy has been silent for the past few weeks. No worries... I've still been cooking... just nothing new or too interesting.
This week however, will be different. This weekend I will be attending the American Royal World Series of BBQ in Kansas City. I will be cooking with the fine folks on the Cookshack competition team. ( I'm sure I'll be spending more time learning about competition BBQ than I will be actually cooking.) So if you're at the Royal stop by space number 975 and say "Hi!"
According to their press release:
The American Royal Barbecue is widely recognized as the “World Series of Barbecue®” and the world's largest barbecue competition. Headlining the 2011 cook-off will be 505 Open teams and 135 Invitational teams (from across the United States and Canada) competing for more than $100,000 in cash and prizes.
Teams compete in five meat categories: brisket, pork ribs, chicken, pork shoulder/butt, and sausage – plus, other menu favorites such as vegetables, potatoes and baked beans. There's also a “Best Sauce on the Planet” competition where the winning chef/team will win a trophy and $400 first-place prize money. All the top finishers will be announced at the Awards Ceremony at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday afternoon at Hale Arena.
“The American Royal Barbecue, according to best-selling author Patricia Schultz, has been designated as one of '1,000 Places to See in the United States & Canada Before You Die,'” says Jeremy Povenmire, Director of Sales & Marketing for the American Royal Association. “This time-tested endorsement speaks to our worldwide brand and tradition. We're expecting this year's competition to attract more than 60,000 attendees and be our biggest and best yet.”
Needless to say I'm pumped about the opportunity to be a part of this great event, and am very grateful that the Cookshack team is letting me tag along! There will no doubt be plenty of updates and pictures following this event! Not a bad place to attend your first competition...
